GoM wants land Bill provisions to apply with retrospective effect
A 12-member group of ministers (GoM) headed by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, formed to vet certain provisions in the controversial Land Acquisition Bill, met in New Delhi on Thursday, but did not take any decision on the draft legislation. The meeting took place amid criticisms from civil society activists that the rural development ministry had watered down some provisions of the Bill, which has been renamed as The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill, 2011. Industry representatives, however, welcomed the changes.

GoM wants market-based pricing for 348 drugs
The Group of Ministers set up to propose a new drug-pricing policy on Thursday recommended a market-based mechanism to regulate prices of 348 essential medicines. The GoM has proposed to cap prices of these medicines at the weighted average price of drugs with a minimum of one per cent market share, officials aware of the development said.

GoM to clear land bill in a week’s time: Pawar
Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar on Monday said that Group of Ministers (GoM) headed by him to consider the Land Acquisition and Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill would clear the legislation in a week’s time. The GoM’s clearance may enable the land bill to be tabled in the Parliament in the Winter session. Earlier, the Union Cabinet had referred the land bill to the GoM to reconcile difference in opinion of various ministries. A number of Union ministers, including Anand Sharma, C.P. Joshi, had opposed the provisions of the land bill.

10% fall in food output; don’t worry, says Pawar
New Delhi: The government on Monday projected a 10% fall in foodgrains output during the kharif season this year at 117.18 million tonnes due to a deficient monsoon but expects the shortfall to be made
