Four lakh carrybags are used in Thrissur every day It took school children to show what the elders failed to do in the city. Alarmed by the increasing environmental threat posed by plastic, students of Devamatha CMI Public School in the city launched an anti-plastic drive by distributing 1,700 paper carrybags at the Sakthan Thampuran market on Friday.
The Boomika project is part of the Suchitwa Varsham 2011-12 programme. Along with the campaign ‘My City My Pride,' it aims to rope in students to make Kochi a cleaner and greener place. In Bhoomika, students collect plastic from their homes and drop them in waste bins placed at schools. This will be taken away by Kochi Corporation workers, and later recycled.
DIBRUGARH, May 31: The Environmental Awareness Programme was launched by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Assam Oil Division (AOD) from May 30 as a curtain-raiser to the World Environment Day celebration.

GUWAHATI: A workshop on ‘National Environment Awareness Campaign, 2011-2012’ on the theme ‘Forests for sustainable livelihood’ was organized by Environmental Watch and Management Institute (EWMI) very recently with support from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests.
