  • Punjab livestock department to get around Rs two billion for ADP

    The Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Department is likely to get around Rs 2 billion for its Annual Development Programme (ADP) in the provincial budget 2008-09 with 60 percent share for the on-going schemes and 40 percent for the new schemes. Reliable sources in the department told Business Recorder here on Thursday that work was still in progress regarding the allocation for the livestock sector but roughly they would get around Rs 2 billion to continue its efforts for increasing the production of milk and meat in the province.

  • Now camel milk for Delhi

    The Rajasthan Cooperative Dairy Federation has started selling camel milk at its dairy milk parlour at Bikaner House in New Delhi. The new pasteurised milk packets have been priced at Rs.20 for half litre. Federation Chairman and Managing Director Madhukar Gupta said here on Monday that researchers had recently found camel milk good for the health of diabetes patients. The initial reports of the camel milk sale in Delhi were very encouraging, Mr. Gupta added.

  • Farmers may be allowed to buy 20 animals'

    Kamdhenu scheme which was started with an objective to boost milk production and make Goa self-reliant has not been as successive as it should have been. But the State Government has not given up its hope to have "milk revolution' in the State. It is contemplating to expand the scope of the Kamdhenu scheme to increase milk production which is less than 1 lakh liter a day. "We are thinking of allowing purchase of 20 animals instead of only ten animals allowed now but nothing has been finalised as yet,' said an Animal Husbandry official.

  • Milk producers threaten stir

    Milk producers attached to cooperative societies supplying milk to Jaipur Dairy have threatened to stop their deliveries unless the public sector dairy reverses its decision to drastically reduce the payments by "arbitrarily' changing the solid non-fat (SNF) norms. The Rajasthan Dugdha Utpadak Sangh said here that Jaipur Dairy was paying an abysmal Rs.2 to 8 per litre to the cattle breeders for milk supplied by them, but had raised the milk prices for consumers thrice during the past two months. This has led to a loss of Rs.1.50 crore a month to the milk producers.

    Punjab may be flopping on fronts like health, information technology but its flavoured Verka lassi, desi ghee,ice-cream, sweetened milk, panjiri, paneer, curd, and kheer are doing very well in the national and international market. Milkfed, state's leading cooperative, known for Verka brand in and outside the country has achieved 64 per cent growth in the sale of lassi, 37 per cent in sweetened flavoured milk, 31 per cent in ghee, 21 per cent in ice cream, 70 per cent in kheer and 39 per cent in paneer last year. Desi ghee and lassi have been traditionally strong area of Punjab.

  • Private players vie for Punjab milk

    Paramjit Singh from Chunni Khurd in District Fatehgarh Sahib procures about 300 litres of milk every day from 30 farmers of his village. He shows off an electronic equipment to measure milk, given to him by Reliance, which has opened 400 milk collection centres in as many villages of Punjab as part of its milk procurement and retail marketing programme. For Punjab dairy farmers like Paramjit, there is a range of choices opening up so far as buyers are concerned.

    JAMMU: An awareness camp was organized by the Chief Animal Husbandry Officer at village Pangali in Dansal block Jammu today. The farmers form Panglai and adjoining villages took part in the camp and learnt about the scientific methods of rearing and management of livestock ,poultry and conservation of forest and wildlife from the experts of the department.

  • Government to bring white revolution: Prime Minister

    Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday said the government would provide all necessary resources to bring about a white revolution in the country. Pakistan is an agricultural country and government is committed to enhance the production of dairy sector, the Prime Minister said. He said this during a presentation given to him by former Minister for Industries, Production and Special Initiatives Jehangir Khan Tareen MNA on the Pakistan Dairy Development Company (PDDC) here on Tuesday at the PM Secretariat.

  • Dairy majors to get sops for natural vanilla

    The Union government has decided to provide subsidy to all cooperative milk marketing institutions for switching over to natural vanilla as a flavoured ingredient in their various milk-based products. The commerce ministry is preparing a scheme for this and a notification will be issued shortly. The ministry has planned to provide the difference in prices between natural and synthetic vanilla as subsidy.
