SHILLONG: With bird flu spreading to at least nine districts of Assam and parts of Bangladesh bordering Meghalaya, the State Government has banned import of poultry and poultry products from that state and the neighbouring country.
The dreaded bird flu has spread to several new areas in the State. According to official sources here, the virus of the disease has been found in the poultry populations of Municipal Ward Number 6 of Dibrugarh, Jalah village of Bejera area in Kamrup district, Khanapara Central Seed Rearing Farm here of the Veterinary Department and Nilibari village of Chirang District.

Guwahati: The People for Ethical Treatment to Animals (PETA) says that bird flu in Assam was due to farm filth. In a strongly-worded report they said, they had arrived at the conclusion after a secret survey was made on 40 farms in Assam, besides information from the Government departments.
SHILLONG, Dec 9: Following the outbreak of avian flu in Asom, the Meghalaya Government has banned the import of chicken and other poultry products from outside the State.
GUWAHATI, Dec 8: The outbreak of bird flu in Assam is confirmed after laboratory tests. Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden has come up with various precautionary measures inside and in the surrounding areas of the zoo in the wake culling operations which had started in the state.
Guwahati: With bird flu spreading to at least three districts since it was first detected in a village in Hajo block in Kamrup (Rural) district in November, authorities in Assam have imposed a ban on inter-district transportation of poultry.
In the backdrop of outbreak of avian influenza in Assam, the district administration of Papum Pare in Arunachal Pradesh has put a blanket ban on import of pigs, poultry and other poultry products from the neighbouring State. The order, issued on Friday, however, said that selling of chicken, ducks, pigs and poultry products from within the State will be exempted from the purview of the ban.
Nine days after bird flu was first reported from Hajo in Kamrup (rural) district of Lower Assam, the authorities on Friday confirmed that the killer avian disease had spread to Nalbari and Barpeta districts too, with Rapid Reaction Teams fanning out to the new areas to carry out culling operations.
