A field study was done to study and document the indigenous knowledge of various ethnic groups of Sikkim regarding animal healthcare. A large number of plants was collected and the information on their ethno-veterinary uses was gathered from local inhabitants. The information about folk medicinal use, vernacular names of plants and the parts of the plants used are documented.
This study presents comparative TLC of ethanol extract of plants, Euphorbia hirta L. (Euphorbiaceae) and Gomphrena celosioides Mart. (Amaranthaceae) and formulation (E. hirta + G. celosioides, 4:1) was compared with some of the available homeopathic drugs for piles.
The study conducted on 120 rural and urban homemakers in two randomly selected panchayat wards and two municipal council wards of district Kangra of Himachal Pradesh revealed their knowledge regarding indigenous resource management practices.
