  • Sukkur without water for 10 days

    Almost 80 per cent people of the city and adjoining areas have not received drinking water for ten days and as many as 13 demonstrations were held by the affected people from Thursday to Sunday outside the offices of union councils and district council. In New Taluka Sukkur, water supply from Maka Goth Water Works Phase-IV has been suspended since April 18, adversely affecting the residents of Maka Goth, Adam Shah Colony, Nawan Goth, Shah Khalid Colony, Bihar Colony, Military Road, Shamsabad, Waritar Road, Choona Bhatta, Golimar and SITE area.

  • Acute water crisis in Comilla town

    Acute water crisis plagues life at different parts of the Comilla municipality due to the drastic fall in the ground water level. The residents of the town alleged they had been facing acute water crisis over the past four days while the authorities so far were yet to take proper initiative to reduce the crisis. They alleged that they were receiving scanty amount of water in the pipeline of the municipality as the authorities were supplying one-third of the total amount of water they needed.

  • Plan to stop water theft

    Siliguri: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) will crack down on those who tap water illegally from underground supply lines in many of its wards, in a bid to give uninterrupted water supply to residents. As part of its drive to check the diversion of water, the civic body will conduct raids, slap fine on those found taking water without permission and even seek the help of police to seize their pumps. "In the past couple of weeks, we have received complaints regarding water supply,' said Sharadindu Chakraborty, member, mayor-in-council (water).

  • 27 ill after drinking polluted water

    Many people of ward 71, 73 and 74 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) fell ill today after consuming water supplied by the civic body. While civic officials said that eight people had fallen ill, locals said that the number was at least 27.

    An end to water crisis in Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) areas seems faraway as little progress has been made four years after taking of a project to solve the crisis. The demand of water has risen manifold with formation of the city corporation that has got a larger area and population but the authorities can meet highest 30 to 40 per cent of the requirement -- 5 crore litre water daily, SCC Secretary Harun Ur Rashid Molla said.

  • Locals block highway demanding drinking water

    Local resdients obstructed Sailekh Bazaar stretch of Dashrath Chand Highway in Baitadi district on Sunday protesting the shortage of drinking water at local taps. The locals blocked the road at the bazaar near the district headquarters Gadi stating the taps ran dry for the last three days in around 20 taps of the locality. Thousands of passengers including those heading for hilly-district Dadeldhura have been left stranded due to the blockade. The locals insisted that they will continue the strike until they were ensured drinking water.

  • Foreign experts in valley water management

    Three foreign water management experts have undertaken the responsibility of supplying drinking water to the Kathmandu valley from this week. Last week, Kathmandu Valley Drinking Water Limited appointed a General Manager and two Managing Directors on the recommendation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the chief contributor of the Melamchi Drinking Water Project. The team will be working for one-and-a-half years.

  • No votes, no water: Maoist diktat in Panchthar

    Accusing the people of Angna-5 village in northeastern district of Panchthar of not voting for their party, cadres of Maoists have cut the pipe of drinking water forcing the locals to trek four hours to fetch water. According to Chandra Dahal, secretary of the local user committee of the village, the Maoist cadres have cut the pipe in four places and have erected their party flags there. Most of the villagers are said to be supporters of Nepali Congress.
