The Council at its meeting on Wednesday approved a new parking policy which will rationalise the parking system and have increased rates based on the area and the opportunity cost involved.
Pune: The municipal corporations of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad have been told to implement pay-and-park scheme in congested areas. This is one of the 12-point action plan finalized at a high-level meeting convened by additional chief secretary (home) Amitabh Rajan for solving traffic problems of the city last week. The two corporations have also been asked to ensure there are no encroachments affecting movement of pedestrians and traffic.
Mumbai: The Bombay HC on Monday asked the state’s lawyer to take instructions from the Urban Development Department (UDD), headed by CM Prithviraj Chavan and reply to a new PIL that raised issues about “lack of transparency” in the state’s public parking policy on May 2. The PIL moved on Monday by Thane-based activist Pravin Wategaonkar, who had earlier filed a PIL on the Adarsh housing irregularities, said that an RTI query he made last month showed that no new approvals were given to public parking lots after June 2012. The files before June 2012 got burnt in the Mantralaya fire, the department had said. The query was to find out how many public parking lots were allowed since November 2010.
10% Lower Requirements For Buildings Beside BRTS, Metro Routes Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) has relaxed parking requirements for commercial buildings along transit corridors of the city by 10%. Principally, these are along the BRTS and metro corridors. Auda claims that it would boost the commercial and corporate offices coming up along the corridors. Developers along the corridor also get the maximum permissible FSI — 4.
MUMBAI: The BMC plans to introduce variable parking rates in the city. It is working on a new policy to revise parking rates and make them area-specific. The rates will be higher in areas like Nariman Point where there is a greater demand for parking. In the same policy, the BMC is also looking at fining vehicle owners who park illegally. People manning parking lots would be given handheld devices with inbuilt cameras with which they will be able to take pictures of illegally parked vehicles and also note their numbers.
Sparing a thought for traffic congestion against the backdrop of a spurt in the vehicular population, the Haryana government has allowed stilt parking for plots measuring six marlas and above. While the stilt parking would be allowed for all licensed colonies and plots granted changed of land use (CLU), it would not be allowed for farmhouses, official sources said.

The proposal, which will be put forth before the Union Cabinet for its approval, envisages letting out space to commercial establishments like restaurants and shops to raise funds for the construction.
Commercial Building Can Be 21M High: NMA New Delhi: The multilevel Kasturba Gandhi Marg parking project was officially cleared by National Monuments Authority (NMA) in a meeting on Tuesday. While the clearance provides much needed relief to New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and concessionaire DS Constructions, it comes with conditions relating to the height of the proposed structures. The parking lot will be 40m high as proposed, but NMA wants the height of the commercial building to be 21m instead of 40m.
Only Pick-Up And Drop-Off Points To Be Provided At Stations New Delhi: There will be no parking at Phase III Metro stations coming up along Ring Road and Outer Ring Road as space is at a premium in these areas. Instead, there will be designated pick-up and dropoff points at each station, said officials. “A number of stations in line 7, which is the Mukundpur-Shiv Vihar corridor, will be located on Ring Road. Since a parking will require space, we are only planning the station box with utilities. The stations are also being designed to have pick-up and drop-off points,” said a Delhi Metro official.
