Year to year variation of Indian monsoon rainfall is described qualitatively in some ancient Sanskrit texts. Interestingly, these are cyclic with periods of 3, 5, 7, 18 and 60 years. Time series analysis of actual seasonal rainfall data shows that at very near the above periods the spectrum has significant peaks.

Sunderarajan NEW DELHI: The southwest monsoon crossed its midway point five days ago but the situation continues to be grim across the country, with part of the gains made during the first half of July even getting eroded during the past two weeks following the northward movement of the monsoon trough from its normal position.
DHENKANAL: Winged guests, particularly the Openbill Storks, have started arriving in large numbers at Sadangi and Jharda villages in Dhenkanal district.
