Forest fire, an anti environmental human activity, is becoming a great threat for eco restoration of Cherrapunjee-the site famous as wettest place on earth. Human's carelessness, negligence and ignorance are the main causes of annual ground fire resulting into pronounced and prolonged ill effect on climate, land use, land cover, biodiversity and forest ecosystem.
In this new study IMD examines district-wise and all India drought climatology over India for southwest monsoon season using using Percent of Normal(PN) & Standardized Precipitation Index(SPI).Compares drought climatology based on SPI with that based on PN to show that SPI is a better index for monitoring drought conditions over smaller spatial scales like districts, subdivisions etc.
A recent report by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has pointed out that 2009 received the third worst rainfall since 1901, behind 1918 when there was a 25 per cent deficiency and 1972 when the deficiency was 24 per cent of the Long Period Average. The report, released in January, was prepared by the National Climate Centre, IMD, Pune.
BOMDILA, Feb 2: A three-day district level disaster management training on search and rescue operations and first aid began since yesterday here at Bomdila in West Kameng district to acquaint and make people aware of the risk factors, especially in the backdrop of the approaching monsoon, which is the most disaster-prone season.
Extreme climate and weather events are increasingly being recognized as key aspects of climate change. Pre-monsoon season (March
South Asian summer monsoon (June through September) rainfall simulation and its potential future changes are evaluated in a multi-model ensemble of global coupled climate models outputs under World Climate Research Program Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (WCRP CMIP3) data set.
