Narmada network has eased water scarcity conditions: Study
SSNNL-Sponsored Survey Flies In The Face Of State Govt’s Claims Of Drought Gandhinagar: A just-published study, sponsored by Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd (SSNNL), suggests that even the existing incomplete canal network should have considerably eased the current scarcity conditions, claimed to be prevailing in large parts of Gujarat. Solar panels along irrigation canals soon
The State government will install solar panels along the irrigation canals to generate power for lifting water. The project will be implemented in Yadgir, Raichur and Bijapur districts in the first phase. Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai said here on Wednesday that it had been planned to install 10,000 solar panels along the one lakh-kilometre length of irrigation canals.

Chambal canal system to be revamped
The National Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development (NABARD) will help the Rajasthan Government revamp the half-century-old Chambal canal system which caters to the irrigation needs of the Hadauti districts of Kota, Bundi and Baran. The Hadauti region is known for its grain and cereal production including export quality Bundi rice, thanks to its comparatively better water availability. The fund for the revamp of the canal system forms part of a total loan assistance of Rs.1,833 crore from NABARD to Rajasthan under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF-XVIII) and the NABARD Development Assistance (NIDA) in the current financial year. The other major projects include two roads -- Alwar-Behror-Narnul Road and Jaipur-Nagaur Road -- rural village roads and major district roads.
