The state agriculture directorate today held a meeting with scientists of Birsa Agriculture University to work on a contingency plan should the monsoon be delayed beyond June 30. Weather scientists have however not lost hope yet, predicting today that chances were bright for the southwest monsoon to kick in by Friday, bringing rain to large parts of the country.
New Delhi: The development of a mild cyclonic circulation off the Konkan coast in the Arabian Sea on Tuesday has been giving rise to hopes that the monsoon, which has been subdued for more than two weeks now, was firmly finding strength and was on course for a revival by the end of this week.
AHMEDABAD: A storm threat loomed over the south Gujarat and Saurashtra coasts on Tuesday heralding the onset of monsoon in the state. The water storage in Panshet, Khadakwasla, Temghar and Warasgaon dams have dipped to a low of 0.9 TMC. Irrigation officials say such a delay in rains over dam sites and catchment areas was last observed in 1982, more than 27 years ago.

Sarabjit Pandher CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government has advised farmers to plan their kharif crops keeping in view the receding water level in all the three dams in the State. This will result in the rationing in release of water into the three major irrigation systems.

The overall rainfall deficit in the State during this monsoon touched 30 per cent today. Disclosing this, Regional Meteorology Centre (RMC) sources here said that Meghalaya has recorded the highest rainfall deficit of 76 per cent during this monsoon.
