Huddle plan for rain delay
The state agriculture directorate today held a meeting with scientists of Birsa Agriculture University to work on a contingency plan should the monsoon be delayed beyond June 30. Weather scientists have however not lost hope yet, predicting today that chances were bright for the southwest monsoon to kick in by Friday, bringing rain to large parts of the country.

New Delhi: The development of a mild cyclonic circulation off the Konkan coast in the Arabian Sea on Tuesday has been giving rise to hopes that the monsoon, which has been subdued for more than two weeks now, was firmly finding strength and was on course for a revival by the end of this week.

Monsoon 'storms' into Gujarat
AHMEDABAD: A storm threat loomed over the south Gujarat and Saurashtra coasts on Tuesday heralding the onset of monsoon in the state. The Met department warned moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorm activity in northern and southern parts of the state, including Kutch, in 48 hours beginning Tuesday morning.

Water dips in dams; delay in rains akin to 1982
Pune If rains continue to stay away from the catchment areas, the water for Pune city will last around 20 days. The water storage in Panshet, Khadakwasla, Temghar and Warasgaon dams have dipped to a low of 0.9 TMC. Irrigation officials say such a delay in rains over dam sites and catchment areas was last observed in 1982, more than 27 years ago.

Punjab cautions farmers

Deficit rainfall in North East
The overall rainfall deficit in the State during this monsoon touched 30 per cent today. Disclosing this, Regional Meteorology Centre (RMC) sources here said that Meghalaya has recorded the highest rainfall deficit of 76 per cent during this monsoon.

Manmohan: monitor monsoon situation closely
New Delhi: With the delay in monsoon raising concerns over farm output, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has asked officials to monitor the situation closely on a daily basis. The seasonal rain, which ought to have covered most parts of the country by now, has stopped in its tracks near Mumbai.
