July 1: Scarcity of funds has hit the afforestation programmes in Anantapur district. The district has 1,989 sq km of forest land out of a geographical area of 19,134 sq km. Forests are being destroyed here for firewood, erratic rainfall and heavy soil erosion.
Absorbing aerosols affect global-mean precipitation primarily in two ways. They give rise to stronger shortwave atmospheric heating, which acts to suppress precipitation. Depending on the top-of-the-atmosphere radiative flux change, they can also warm up the surface with a tendency to increase precipitation.

Snowfall in the Himalaya and Tibetan plateau affects monsoon. For two decades snowfall was one of the parameters Indian meteorologists used to predict monsoon in the subcontinent. They believed there was an inverse relation between snowfall in the Himalaya and monsoon; the wider the snow cover, the weaker the rainfall.
Development and effective utilization of groundwater resources is essential in arid and semi-arid regions for activities such as water supply and irrigation. The present study aims to analyze, statistically,
The main motivation of this comprehensive study is to understand climatological and fluctuation features of the extreme rainfall events (EREs) considering detailed account of spatial variability of rainfall occurrences. Experiences suggest that the EREs are embedded in the large-scale, long period intense rainfall activities during the summer monsoon period.
