KRISHNAGIRI: Efforts by the forest officials to push the elephant herd into the forests went in vain for the third day on Wednesday. D. Arun, District Forest Officer, told The Hindu that the herd, which came out from the Poyyappatti hills around 6.30 p.m. on Tuesday through Karadithittu, was pushed through the already planned path i.e. via Keelanaur with torch lights and fire balls.

JORHAT, July 15: More than a 100 strong elephant herd which has been creating havoc in areas of North-West Jorhat since last month is now exploring the isles along the Brahmaputra. Forest Department sources said that, the herd moved from Kartik Sapori to Aruna Sapori last night and that forests guards were camping at Kolbari, the nearest place adjoining the Aruna Sapori.
Forest officials have taken measures to check wild elephant menace in Lingdalli in Tarikere taluk. Officials have been directed to protect the crops, said MLA D S Suresh. Speaking after inaugurating various developmental works in Nandibattalu in Lingadalli, he said action plan has been prepared to help the residents of Lingadahalli.
