Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding elephant corridors in Odisha, 14/03/2023
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Wildlife Society of Orissa Vs State of Odisha & Others dated 14/03/2023.
The NGT, Eastern Bench, Kolkata expressed displeasure with the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden, Odisha at the lack of progress made in complying with the court order for notifying elephant corridors in the state.
The NGT, August 17, 2021 had given directions to the authorities to file an affidavit of compliance within two months regarding notifying of the elephant corridors as identified by the Asian Nature Conservation Foundation (ANCF) and the Action Plan. Till now, no action taken report has been placed before the court.
The NGT directed notice to be issued to the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden, Odisha and directed for filing of a personal affidavit "showing cause as to why action may not taken against him under Section 26 of the National Green Tribunal Act, 2010". The matter has been listed for April 6, 2023.
