Joint committee report on STPs discharging sewage in open land, Rewari district, Haryana, 20/12/2022

Action taken report in Original Application No. 627/2022 in the matter of Parkash Yadav Vs State of Haryana in the National Green Tribunal, Principal Bench, New Delhi.

The applicant has submitted that sewage from various sewage treatment plants (STP) established in district Rewari is being discharged in hundreds of acres of vacant land of Sahabi river situated near village Kharkhara, Khaliawas on Delhi Jaipur National Highway. The stagnated sewage has destroyed trees and other vegetation. Due to drinking of contaminated groundwater residents of village Kharkhara, Khaliawas, Bhatsana, Tatarroop, Nikhri, Masani, Rasgan, Dungerwas, Titherpur, Alwalpur and Dharuhera have become vulnerable to pandemic and water borne diseases.

The Joint Committee during inspection collected the samples from inlet and outlet of STPs and as per analysis report from Board Laboratory, Faridabad, parameters are found exceeding the prescribed limits. The regional office, HSPCB, Dharuhera has filed prosecution against 5 STPs for samplesac exceeding prescribed limits.

The committee found that the various parameters of effluent from 5 STPs operated by the Public Health Engineering Department, Rewari and 1 STP operated by Haryana Sahari Vikas Pradhikaran, Rewari and 1 of point of discharge at outlet of pipeline carrying sewage effluent of Rewari city into LBS channel, village Jarthal are not as per standards fixed by the Haryana State Pollution Control Board vide letter dated July 2, 2020.

The committee recommended that the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Rewari and Haryana Sahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), Rewari need to upgrade/improve the functioning of STPs under their control and to maintain sewage/effluent discharge standards for sewage treatment plant as circulated by the Haryana State Pollution Control Board vide letter dated July 2, 2020.
