Submissions by Amicus Curiae regarding water pollution by tanneries at Jajmau, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh and water pollution at Raniaa, Kanpur Dehat and Rakhi Mandi, Kanpur Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. Cumulative impact assessment as well as carrying capacity of industrial areas (Kanpur - Unnao belt) must be considered and undertaken before granting permission for setting up of any water polluting unit in the Ganga river basin.

All projects in this region should require compulsory prior Environmental Clearance supported by an Environmental Impact Assessment and Cost Benefit Analysis. In areas suffering from groundwater contamination, salinity and dark zones, there should be no new construction or development activity be allowed in such area and restoration work along with water harvesting programmes must be initiated, said the report filed by the Amicus Curiae regarding water pollution by tanneries at Jajmau, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh and water pollution at Rania, Kanpur Dehat and Rakhi Mandi, Kanpur Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.
