Report of joint committee in the matter of OA No. 164 of 2022 submitted to the National Green Tribunal in compliance to the NGT order, April 5, 2022.

The grievance of the application is unscientific dumping of marble slurry on agricultural land near Harischandrapuram railway station, Kotabommali mandal, Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh, which is adversely affecting the environment and public health. Due to non-availability of designated site for dumping the granite slurry, the units are disposing the waste in low lying areas, along road sides and in unauthorized lands causing air and other environmental issues, the committee observed.

The government of Andhra Pradesh or the district administration, Srikakulam should allocate suitable sites within the existing granite processing units or located at isolated places preferable 1km away from any notified human habitation. The committee recommended that after identification of a designated site for disposal of granite slurry, the marble association should construct the dumping yard with sufficient depth and for fulfilling 5 years dumping requirements.
