CPCB report on District Environment Plans, 12/01/2022

Status report by the Central Pollution Control Board on the preparation of District Environment Plans (DEP) in compliance to the National Green Tribunal order, July 5, 2021 in Original Application No. 360 of 2018 (Shree Nath Sharma Vs Union of India & Others).

The NGT, July 5, 2021 had directed the Chief Secretaries of all the states/UTs to ensure completion of District Environment Plans (DEPs) for all the districts. As per the updated information received by the CPCB, 616 number of District Environment Plans has been prepared and 13 State Environment Plans have been prepared (Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Lakshadweep, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Puducherry, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and West Bengal).

The CPCB had selected five districts - Baharaich, Uttar Pradesh; Bokaro, Jharkhand; Pune, Maharashtra; Chamrajnagar, Karnataka and Panchkula, Haryana for the preparation and implementation of DEPs. For further review, CPCB conducted a consultative meeting with officers involved in preparation of DEPs, November 11, 2021. The implementation of plans is already under process by the concerned department at the district level, the report submitted by the CPCB to the NGT said.
