Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Chanchal Devi Vs Central Pollution Control Board & Others dated 19/08/2021.

Grievance in the application was against violation of environmental norms in the operation of a sugar factory run by Wave Industries Pvt. Ltd. at village Malaysia, tehsil Dhanaura, district Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. According to the applicants, the said industrial unit was bypassing the untreated waste and contaminated water in open area and into the fields of the farmers, resulting in damage to the environment. The waste water has toxic chemicals and an area of 4–5 kilometer has been affected by the said pollution. Further, water coming from handpumps is brownish in colour and full of chemicals.

The NGT, directed the constitution of a joint committee comprising the CPCB, State PCB, CGWA and District Magistrate, Amroha. The committee has been directed to meet within 15 days and undertake visit to the site, interact with the stakeholders and take remedial action. A report has to be filed within two months by the committee.
