Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Tribunal on its own Motion Vs Union of India dated 02/04/2019 regarding Churni river pollution due to discharge of untreated effluents. Municipal Corporation Ranaghat has been directed to take all efforts to complete the tender procedures for the establishment of the STPs. Further the municipality has informed the Court that discharge of untreated effluents from Bangladesh is also one of the major cause of the pollution of River Churni and it will have to be taken care by Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India and Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

The West Bengal State Government is directed to address the matter to the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India and Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change shall pursue the matter with the Ministry of External Affairs and take necessary steps in this regard to help the West Bengal Government to make the state pollution free in this regard. Ranaghat Municipality is directed to submit a report regarding the allegation of dumping of garbage and if the allegation are true, what are the steps taken to remove the same and disposal of the same within a period of one month.
