This report, which addresses the important step of “greening” the transportation system in South East Europe (SEE) countries. The main reason for establishing the SUMSEEC project is the exchange of experience between SEE cities, which often face common challenges, and opportunities. The project aims at creating sustainable and integrated transport sectors that will contribute to sustainable economic development and human capacity development in SEE countries. This mobility challenge requires coordinated actions from all stakeholders toward new “multimodal” services – those that facilitate journeys combining walking, cars, buses, bikes, and trains – as well as shared transportation services. Technological advances and commercialization, funding, intelligent policies, and business-model innovation will be needed to realize productivity improvements while creating more sustainable environments in the cities.
