Annual Status Report on Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) 2017
In line with growing relevance in the post-Paris climate landscape, the number of Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) recorded in the NAMA Database continues to increase. At the same time, securing funding for implementation remains a key obstacle: only 8.5% of the NAMAs have obtained implementation funding. The Annual NAMA Status Report provides an up-to-date snapshot of NAMA development worldwide. This year’s edition also investigates three angles from which developing countries could drive the implementation of their climate plans (Nationally Determined Contributions, NDCs): The wealth of experience and body of knowledge that has been built up by public officials and NAMA practitioners in developing NAMAs. The experience from project developers in designing financial mechanisms for low-carbon programmes, which have been successful in attracting international climate finance for implementation. The emerging approach of mainstreaming circular economy in climate project pipelines, which could help countries achieve not only mitigation targets but also sustainable development goals. The latest report of the NAMA Status Report series under the Mitigation Momentum project, funded by the International Climate Initiative of the German Ministry for the Environment, has been launched during COP23 in Bonn, Germany, and is a joint project by Ecofys, a Navigant company, and ECN.
