Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Gauri Maulekhi Vs. Union Of India & Ors. dated 16/12/2016 regarding use of horses, ponies, mules and donkeys to carry pilgrims and goods from Katra to the Vaishno Devi temple. NGT in its Order said that "efforts should be made to ensure that no parking of animals is permitted in the river and parking areas thereof would be provided in the barren areas between the Baan Ganga and Katra. They shall also bring out clearly the management plan in relation to mule dung that is collected as well as disposal of the animals which are found suffering from glanders."
