International comparison of fossil power efficiency and CO2 intensity

The purpose of this study is to compare the energy efficiency and CO2-intensity of fossil-fired power generation for Australia, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway aggregated), South Korea, United Kingdom and Ireland (aggregated), and the United States. This is done by calculating separate benchmark indicators for the energy efficiency of gas-, oil- and coal-fired power generation. Additionally, an overall benchmark for fossil-fired power generation is determined. The benchmark indicators are based on deviations from average energy efficiencies. For the comparison of CO2 intensity, Canada and Italy are added as additional countries.
