Open access portal on climate change

An open-access portal to provide information about climate change will soon hit cyberspace. Climate experts who attended a workshop on community-based adaptation to climate change in Dhaka in February came to an agreement to launch the portal. The aim is to share ideas, said Saleemul Huq, director of the climate change programme at the uk-based International Institute for Environment and Development. "People from all walks of life, starting from the grassroots to experts will have access to the network,' Huq told SciDev.net.

The experts believe the portal emphasises the need for a simple and direct message to grab the attention of policy makers and to bring the issues on climate change to public notice.

Policy makers, researchers, ngo representatives and journalists participated in the Dhaka workshop. They recommended the promotion of collective dialogues on climate change adaptation, which they hope the portal can contribute to.
