ECO COURT

The Bangladesh government is soon going to set up a green court to deal with environmental problems, such as deteriorating air quality, in major cities such as its capital Dhaka. A study conducted in 1996 has revealed that during the dry season, Dhaka's air is more polluted than that of any other city in the world. The nearly eight million population of the city inhales air containing 463 nanogrammes (ng) of lead per cubic metre, compared to Mexico City's 383 ng and Mumbai's 360 ng. As a result, there has been a sharp increase in the number of people suffering from chronic bronchitis and bronchial asthma.
