ASDA to review monkfish ban

ASDA to review monkfish ban After keeping monkfish off its shelves for a month, the British supermarket chain asda has now agreed to review the ban.

asda had imposed the ban and urged celebrity chefs to keep the fish off their menus with a view to encouraging consumers to avoid the popular fish. The supermarket says its effort was to prevent the vulnerable fish disappearing. "Monkfish is slow to reproduce, therefore the species is more at risk than others and more needs to be done to protect it,' says Chris Brown, asda's sustainable and ethical sourcing manager. However, the supermarkets rivals had branded the ban a publicity stunt.
