CHARGES DENIED

Broken Hill Proprietary Corporation (BHP), an Australian minerals, energy and steel company, will contest charges of polluting fish habitats near its isolated Ekati diamond mine in the North West Territories in Canada. Certain Canadian government agencies had made the allegations three years ago. According to them BHP committed eight violations of the Fisheries Act by not doing enough to prevent pollution. The company could face fines up to Canadian $8 million if found guilty by Canada's Supreme Court.
