How countries promote electric vehicles
USA
- The US government gives tax credits up to us $4,000 to those who purchase electric vehicles .
- By 2003, 10 per cent of the cars in the state of California will be electric vehicles.
- So will a fixed percentage of vehicles in the government fleet.
- A US Advanced Battery Consortium has been set up by the government and the industry will give funds amounting to us $260 million to develop technology for batteries for electric vehicles.
Austria:
- To promote electric vehicles, various provinces in Austria sponsor 15 to 20 per cent of the investment cost of such vehicles.
- Electric vehicles are exempted from motor vehicle tax and the insurance tax is also cheaper.
France:
- Electric vehicles purchased by private companies are entitled to 100 per cent depreciation in the first year of purchase.
- No taxes are imposed on the electricity used for charging electric vehicle.
Italy:
- Such vehicles have been given exclusive lanes and roads.
- Free parking facilities are also available for electric vehicles.
