This module of the GTZ Sourcebook for Decision-Makers in Developing Cities is intended to raise awareness, describe the expected impacts of climate change on urban passenger transport and provide an orientation on how to integrate climate proofing into urban transport planning and policy implementation. The paper concludes with a discussion on synergies between adaptation and mitigation. Although the transport sector lies at the heart of urban conglomerations, little attention has been paid specifically to the vulnerabilities of the urban transport system. Nevertheless a few studies on the overall impacts of climate change on transport have emerged in recent years in Europe and North America. This paper gives an overview of these findings and sets them in the context of adaptation in developing cities.
