ZAMBIA

The World Bank has approved a US $70 million loan to improve roads and road management in Zambia. A spokesperson for the World Bank said that the funding would enable road repairs to be speeded up, reducing the strain on government resources and boosting the overall economic efficiency.

A statement released by the World Bank said that the private sector would be invited to participate in designing, constructing and maintaining roads. It added that the project would be able to create about 14,000 new jobs by the year 2002.
