A review of air pollution from transport sector in China

Air pollution in the urban centers of China has received significant attention over the last year, primarily due the 2008 Olympic Games. A number of interventions were implemented over a wide range of sectors (domestic, industrial and transport), to achieve the target reductions in air pollution and improve the number of clean air (blue skies) days in Beijing and the other participating cities in China. This review note aims at understanding the role of transport in air pollution in China and the urban centers; and to better understand, quantitatively and qualitatively, the relative contribution of the transport sector in the urban centers.
