Studying gap between irrigation potential created and utilized in India: final report

This study by IIM-Ahmedabad examines various issues related to the gap between irrigation potential created and utilized and suggests measures for reducing the gap.
The objective of this study is to examine various issues related to the gap between irrigation potential created and utilized and suggest measures for reducing the gap. The scope of this study are: to examine the various issues associated with irrigation potential creation, irrigation potential utilization, gross irrigation and net irrigation including the definition, the reporting practices and consistencies in data etc.; to suggest procedure for collection of related data to be applied uniformly throughout the country; to clearly identify the irrigation potential which has been created but: has never been utilised, has not been utilised regularly and has gone into disuse due to various reasons; to identify the reasons for gap in the irrigation potential created, irrigation potential utilised and gross irrigated area; and to suggest measures for minimising the gap between irrigation potential created and irrigation potential utilised.
