Reforming Indian agriculture: towards employment generation and poverty reduction

Reforming Indian agriculture: towards employment generation and poverty reduction This book discusses the past performance and present status of the agricultural sector in India and delineates the challenges faced by it in the era of economic reforms. The effectiveness of some of the existing schemes for agricultural development (price support, credit, marketing, rural/agricultural development experiences) in devising appropriate intervention strategies for agriculture rejuvenation in India is examined. This book also focuses on the issues of employment, poverty, food and nutrition. Other aspects of development policy reviewed are those of fostering inter-state cooperation or optimum utilization of resources, privatization policy to mobilize funds for social sector development and pattern of adoption of improved technologies by small scale industries in India. Apart from providing macro level analyses, the book incorporates some studies based on micro (field) data to grasp better the realities pertaining to the Indian agrarian economy.
