Safe Shrimps
Antibiotics are good in medicines but not in shrimps. The government insists "there is no trace of the antibiotic nitrofuran in its shrimp exports to the European Union (eu).' This announcement came after the eu decided to test shrimp from Vietnam, Myanmar and Thailand for illegal chemicals. The British wanted to withdraw from sale prawns and shrimps from Southeast Asia. Earlier, the British Food Standards Agency said that tests on warm water prawns from Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, India and Bangladesh had shown 16 out of 77 samples to contain unacceptable levels of nitrofuran.
